Seminar on Local Business Environment with Think-tanks and Shanghai Government Officials

On 29 June, the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter and Shanghai Municipal Government Development and Research Center jointly organized a seminar on local business environment. Dr Ioana Kraft, General Manager of the Shanghai Chapter, shared some key findings of the latest Business Confidence Survey. Despite the European business performed well last year, the foreign-invested enterprises generally feel more difficult in doing business next year in China. Among many other factors, regulatory barriers remain the biggest challenges to foreign business. Members of automotive, auto components, investment, petrochemical, chemical and refining, and pharmaceutical working groups shared issues and concerns of their respective industries.

Ms. Xu Zheng, Deputy Director Genera of the Center chaired the meeting and said the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Party Committee attached great importance to the improvement of business environment and has organized a series of studies to collect industry feedback. Officials of Shanghai Municipal Commerce Commission, Development and Reform Commission, Food and Drug Administration, Customs, Financial Services Office and Health and Family Planning Commission, as well as scholars of Shanghai Academy, were also present at the meeting.
