Meeting with Shanghai Development and Reform Commission on Local Business Environment

2017-09-18 | Shanghai

On 12 September, Mr Zhu Min, DDG of Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission, invited representatives of foreign chambers, associations and Chinese private companies to discuss Shanghai’s business environment and areas for improvement. According to the World Bank’s Doing Business report, China ranks no. 78 among 189 economies regarding business regulations and their enforcement. Although China’s ranking has risen from over 90 of previous years, there are still many areas for improvement. Dr Ioana Kraft, General Manager of the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter, shared the key findings of Business Confidence Survey and highlighted a few areas which have deterred foreign business to expand investments. These include regulatory uncertainties and challenges, market access restrictions on certain sectors, internet related issues, difficulties in obtaining visas and work permits, etc.
