Meeting with MIIT Director General Gao Yunhu on China’s Green Manufacturing System

In response to the European Chamber’s invitation, Mr Gao Yunhu, Director General of the Department of Energy Conservation and Resources Utilisation of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), visited the Chamber in Beijing to share his insights on China’s green manufacturing system. He attended an Environment Working Group meeting along with Mr Wang Xiaoyang, Director, and Mr Guo Fengyuan, Deputy Director, both of the Department of Energy Conservation and Resources Utilisation. Chamber Secretary General Adam Dunnett and Beijing General Manager Carl Hayward welcomed Director General Gao and expressed their gratitude for his attendance.

National Vice Chair of Environment Working Group Gianluca Ghiara provided the opening remarks on behalf of the working group. He explained that the European Chamber has been closely following the implementation of policies related to green manufacturing, and that it actively participated in the public consultation on the draft of the General Principles for Assessment of Green Plants in April 2017.

Director General Gao divided his presentation into three sections: a general background and the need for green industrial development, the current situation and the challenges of establishing a green manufacturing system in China. He provided feedback on implementation progress and missions for each of these sections. He also answered Chamber member’s questions on the evaluation criteria of green plants.

The meeting concluded with Director General Gao recognising the significant role that the Chamber has played in helping European companies in China to communicate with the Chinese Government and creating a platform for international cooperation. He pledged that the Department of Energy Conservation and Resources Utilisation will continue to cooperate with the European Chamber through seminars and public consultations.
