Meeting with Chairman of Shanghai Association of Foreign Invested Enterprises on the Chamber Publications and State Council Circular No. 5

In this meeting, Dr. Ioana Kraft, General Manager of the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter, shared the key findings and recommendations of the BCS, Shanghai Position Paper and Manufacturing in China 2025 with Mr. Liu Jinping, Chairman of the Shanghai Association of Foreign Invested Enterprises. The European business generally performs better this year than the previous year due to stimulus policy in 2016 and cost-cutting in early 2017. In order to have sustainable development, however, the Chinese authorities should let market force play a key role instead of simply giving subsidies. The Chamber is pleased to see the announcement of the State Council Circular No. 5 on further opening up market to foreign business and currently closely monitors the local implementation rules. The European business is willing to increase investments if greater market access is granted. The better market access for the foreign business would also contribute to the Chinese industry upgrading and increase the competitiveness of the Chinese companies in global market. Chairman Liu appreciated the Chamber’s publications and suggested a joint survey on the SME’s business performance in China/Shanghai as the SMEs may encounter completely different issues to the MNCs in the local market. At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the future.
