Meeting with DDG of Shanghai Justice Bureau on 2016/2017 Position Paper

The European Chamber’s Shanghai delegation met with Mr. Wang Xie, Deputy Director General of the Shanghai Justice Bureau and presented the newly published 2016/2017 Position Paper.

In the meeting, European Chamber Legal & Competition Working Group Chair Mr. Carlo D’Andrea introduced the key points outlined in the 2016/2017 Position Paper’s chapter on legal & competition matters, encouraging the Chinese Government for further strengthening of the rule of law and market access for European law firms.

Consequently, DDG Wang Xie and Mr. Carlo D’Andrea had a frank and fortuitous exchange touching on such issues as CEPA, the lacking progress with foreign-Chinese law firm joint-ventures setting up in the FTZs, overly tight public call for comments timeframes and online information platforms for legal proceedings.

Mr. Wang Xie, DDG of the Shanghai Justice Bureau, highly appreciated European Chamber's recommendations and also looked forward to the launch of the upcoming Shanghai Position Paper. Both sides agreed to continue the exchanges and cooperation on the strengthening of the rule of law.
