European Chamber meets with SIPA, WIPO to discuss 13th Shanghai International IP Conference
On 11th May 2016, The European Chamber met with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Shanghai Intellectual Property Association (SIPA) to jointly discuss the planning of the 13th Shanghai International IP Conference. The conference, which is to take place in November, is Shanghai’s key IP event held annually to promote public awareness of IP and create a platform for best practice sharing in IP enforcement among government officials and industry professionals alike. Present at this preparatory meeting were Director Yan Rui from SIPA, Director Chen Hongbing from WIPO and Ms. Eun-Joo Min, Senior Legal Counsellor from WIPO. Representing the European Chamber were Mr. Elliot Papageourgiou, National Chair to the IPR Working Group and Ioana Kraft, General Manager of the Chamber’s Shanghai Chapter.

SIPA, WIPO and the European Chamber reflected on their collaboration on past editions of the Shanghai International IP Conference and reiterated their continued commitment to enhancing international awareness for intellectual property rights. During the fruitful discussion on the conference that followed, Elliot Papageorgiou conveyed his ideas on how to infuse the conference with a more dynamic tenor to enhance audience engagement. Highlighting that innovation would be a key theme for this year’s IP Conference Director Min asked the European Chamber’s inputs in terms of other issues it would like to see covered. Elliot promptly raised a few key topics such as IP enforcement under the current economic climate as well as the universal tension between competition law and IPR. It was agreed that SIPA, WIPO and the European Chamber would once again work together closely in order to ensure another successful rendition of the IP Conference.
