Exclusive Dialogue with MIIT on China Manufacturing 2025

DDG Li delivered a presentation on China Manufacturing 2025 and its relationship with One Belt One Road (OBOR). He started by introducing the background of China Manufacturing 2025, a strategic document released on 29 May, 2015, aiming to make China’s already large industries stronger. It focuses on supply-side reforms, whilst OBOR focuses on the demand side.

In his presentation, DDG Li talked about the several dimensions that can be attributed to China Manufacturing 2025, including industrial capacity cooperation in highly competitive sectors, advanced manufacturing, and platform building. He underlined the importance of indigenous innovation and international cooperation, which is key to shifting China towards the upper end of the value chain. More specifically, DDG Li mentioned a list of key tasks and projects in the manufacturing sector, with the aim of promoting indigenous R&D, industrialisation and smart and green manufacturing.

DDG Li also encouraged Sino-European cooperation, and hoped that the European Chamber can serve as a bridge between China and the EU.
