Job description
The Primark Ethical Trade (China) looks for an experienced candidate in social complaince to join the Traceability team, and who should be also qualified with below requirements: 1 Working experience in the factory quality, production or engineering etc. departments. 2 Knowledge on quality system or production capability audit, especially for garment, shoe, cap etc. industries 3 Able to travel to factories frequently, most in domestic 4 The ability to build excellent relationships with key stakeholders & across the business Experience with merchandiser or sourcing role is preferred.
Responsibilities/Key Tasks: 1 Contributes to the implementation of Primark’s Ethical Strategy for its suppliers and factories in China 2 Provides insight, advice and solutions direct from the supply base 3 Helps to communicate the company’s ethical trading requirements throughout the supply base 4 Raises awareness about the importance of ethical trading and how to approach it. 5 Monitors working conditions in new and existing factories as required 6 Uses appropriate processes as required (eg. Audit, spotcheck) 7 Contributes to new factory approval process in China as required 8 Remediation of Code non-compliances with factories and suppliers as required 9 Produces reports and communicates results in a timely fashion 10 Understands the legal frameworks that apply to Ethical Trade 11 Manages and analyses data relating to the role 12 Updates Primark systems and databases as required by role 13 Encourages cross-team and cross functional interaction 14 Provides support to suppliers, factories and workers to support them through the approval process and thereafter 15 Builds relationships that enable sharing best practices and improvements. 16 Manages stakeholder relationships as required. 17 Proactively reports on risks to the business. 18 Represents the business in meetings and forums as required. 19 Contributes as instructed by ETM to projects aimed at improving worker welfare as required 20 Provides the business with information regarding ethical trading in the region, including case studies and information relating to NGO, media campaigns and other ad-hoc requests 21 Engages in Primark ET Projects as required
Skills & experience
Knowledge & Experience: 1 Experience in CR and ET and the factory e***ironment 2 Factory audit and remediation processes (e.g. SMETA, SA8000 advanced) 3 Excellent organisation/communication skills 4 A self starter who is results driven in a fast paced e***ironment 5 The ability to build excellent relationships with key stakeholders & across the business 6 IT literate (database, spreadsheets)

Judgements & Decisions: 1 Appreciates the trade-offs i***olved in the ethical trade programme of a global retailer 2 Acts as the interface between supplier, factory, worker, buyer and other stakeholders to support the business. 3 Acts with integrity and honesty, and aligned with ABF’s ABC policy and Red Book requirements 4 Able to make decisions where situations are not black-and-white, deals with ambiguity.
Operational Responsibility: 1 Ensures integrity of audit management system and database as relevant to countries in scope 2 Ensures availability of ethically approved factories to Primark as relevant to countries in scope 3 Strives for continuous improvement 4 Researches new ideas and issues 5 Works effectively and manages cost
Contacts & Communication: 1 Ethical Trade Teams in SEA, India, Bangladesh, Turkey and the UK 2 As required, buying and sourcing departments in UK and Ireland 3 Database team in Peterborough 4 ET Controllers (Projects, Comms, E***ironment etc) 5 Proficient in English, written and spoken
Other: 1 Ambassador for the Primark Brand 2 Conducts training sessions for suppliers, workers and factories as required 3 Empathetic style that connects with vulnerable workers 4 Negotiates strongly 5 Comfortable to maintain point of view in potentially contentious discussions with supply chain actors
