China Policy is a rapidly growing, globally recognised policy analysis and strategic advisory firm headquartered in Beijing. We build client knowledge and provide tools to map, analyse and respond to China’s changing domestic, market and geopolitical environments.
The research manager is responsible for all governance and law portfolio work, guiding portfolio priorities and working closely with other sector teams on cross-cutting issues. As a member of the senior team, the manager will contribute to China Policy’s macro analysis and services development. With a confident mastery of China’s political and development trajectories, the successful candidate will be experienced in professional presentations to client groups and larger audiences. Strong China knowledge, and writing, editorial and management skills, are essential.
Issues on the portfolio agenda include: judicial reform, IPR protection, anti-monopoly, cyber security, anti-corruption, Party personnel, media regulation, devolution, stability maintenance, ethnic minorities, property rights, accountability and transparency, and bankruptcy law.
● manage small research team focused on domestic debate, signal events, trends, and key actors and agencies in the governance and law sector to produce online, and client publications to a strict schedule
● draft and edit China Policy online and client publications
● liaise with other research teams to cover governance and law issues across sectors
● contribute to the development of the company and its services, with a keen eye for our public image
● maintain strong knowledge of international discussion in the sector
Skills & experience
● MA, PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field
● professional standard English with exceptional writing skills
● advanced analytical and critical thinking skills
● advanced skills in data presentation (numerical and graphic)
● advanced editorial skills; sensitivity to written expression and eye for detail
● an understanding of the business of policy advice
● exceptional communications skills; polished professional presenter to client groups and larger audiences
● flexible and able to take initiative, willingness to work overtime and produce work to a set schedule
