The Wood Working Group was established in the efforts to promote the use of timber structures in China.To enhance international cooperation, the Working Group works closely with European Wood. European Wood is a cooperation effort between the national wood promotion organizations in Austria, France, Norway and Sweden. European Wood is in the field of codes and standard acting on behalf of CeiBois and European Organisation of Sawmill Industry (EOS) in Brussels, with one representative office in Beijing for China operations, and a new Sino-European Wood Centre established in 2012 with Jiaotong University in Shanghai.

The Wood Working Group promotes comfortable and efficient building systems based on the benefits of using wood and wood products from sustainable forestry. Activities involve transferring technology and knowledge to relevant Chinese central ministries and to appointed expert bodies such as official national standardisation committees. The objective is to eliminate or relax technical barriers and to support development of building codes and standards so that wood can be used more efficiently in building and constructions in China with a focus on modern wood solutions, such as glulam, cross laminated wood and other engineered wood. The Wood Working Group is also supporting sustainable development of using wood in China in the fields of interior design and joinery.
